Private Therapy for Adults
Understanding yourself can be a complex journey, especially if you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, burnout or the late discovery of neurodivergence.
Therapy can help. I offer a range of evidence-based therapies designed to support adults in making meaningful, lasting change, including EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Internal Family Systems.
Sessions are available in person in Manchester and Preston, or online across the UK/internationally. Whether you’re looking for a trauma-focused approach or a gentle space to unpack lifelong patterns, I make suretherapy that fits your needs through a thorough assessment leading to an agreed formulation of your difficulties.
Therapy for Neurodivergent Adults
If you’re autistic, have ADHD, or are exploring neurodivergence, therapy can be an opportunity to understand yourself without pathologising who you are. Many neurodivergent clients come to therapy after years of masking, internalising shame, or being misdiagnosed. I work with adults who may be:
-
Late-diagnosed or self-identifying as autistic or ADHD
-
Feeling burned out from years of masking or high-functioning expectations
-
Struggling with emotional dysregulation, sensory sensitivity or chronic anxiety
-
Processing identity confusion or self-esteem issues related to being misunderstood
-
Looking for a space where they don’t have to explain or justify their differences
Each of the therapies I offer can be adapted to support neurodivergent ways of thinking, processing and communicating. Sessions can be structured or flexible depending on what works best for you. There’s no pressure to make eye contact, speak a certain way, or engage with unfamiliar techniques. We’ll go at your pace.

How Therapy Can Help
Therapy is about helping you understand yourself more fully, process difficult emotions and past experiences (if required), find new ways of relating to your experience and building up a full and meaningful, values based life.
Choosing the right type of therapy can make a big difference in how supported and understood you feel. That’s why I take the time to explore which approach best matches your needs, personality and goals.
For many adults, especially those who are neurodivergent, therapy can be a space to:
-
Process trauma or painful past experiences
-
Develop emotional regulation skills
-
Explore identity and self-worth
-
Understand patterns in relationships
-
Reduce anxiety, overwhelm or low mood
-
Feel more grounded and connected to the present
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy designed to help people process and recover from traumatic or distressing experiences.
It works by helping your brain reprocess memories that feel stuck, so they no longer trigger the same emotional intensity. In EMDR sessions, you’ll focus on a specific memory while using bilateral stimulation such as side-to-side eye movements, tapping or sounds. This activates the brain's natural healing process, allowing you to revisit the experience without being overwhelmed by it.
Over time, the memory becomes less emotionally charged, and you may gain new insight or perspective.
This type of therapy can be particularly valuable for neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD or autism, who may process information more visually or struggle to articulate emotions verbally. I provide sessions that are paced carefully and respectfully. We’ll work together to make sure you feel safe, stable and supported throughout the process.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a relatively modern, more practical form of therapy that focuses on helping you build a meaningful life while learning to manage difficult thoughts and feelings more effectively. Instead of trying to eliminate anxiety, self-doubt or past regrets, ACT helps you change your relationship with them so that they no longer have the same impact. The goal is not to control what you think or feel but to increase your psychological flexibility – your ability to stay present and act in line with your values, even when life feels hard.
ACT is particularly effective for neurodivergent people because it doesn’t rely on trying to fit into rigid “norms” or changing who you are. Instead, it helps you recognise your values, define what matters to you, and take steps toward a life that feels authentic even in the presence of overwhelm or emotional intensity.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy can help with:
-
Generalised anxiety and overthinking
-
Perfectionism and self-criticism
-
Depression or emotional numbness
-
Feeling stuck, unmotivated or disconnected
-
Identity issues and self-acceptance
-
Long-term stress or burnout
ACT uses mindfulness techniques, metaphors and simple exercises to build skills in acceptance, present-moment awareness and committed action. You won’t be expected to talk endlessly about your past or “fix” your thoughts. Instead, ACT gives you tools to respond to challenges with more clarity and compassion.
IFS Therapy can help with:
-
Complex trauma and emotional neglect
-
Chronic shame or self-blame
-
Internal conflict and decision-making difficulties
-
Dissociation or emotional numbness
-
Low self-worth or harsh inner criticism
-
Feeling “fragmented” or emotionally overwhelmed
Many neurodivergent adults find IFS especially helpful, as it offers a structured yet flexible way of making sense of intense emotions and inner contradictions.
If you’ve ever felt like different parts of you are “fighting” each other or that you’re constantly switching between extremes, IFS can help you understand why – and what those parts need.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps you explore and heal the different “parts” within your personality. According to IFS, we all have a system of inner parts – like the anxious part, the perfectionist, the inner critic or the part that shuts down. These parts are not flaws.
IFS helps you relate to your internal world with curiosity and compassion, instead of judgement or resistance. The aim isn’t to get rid of parts, but to understand them, heal the wounds they carry, and restore balance within your inner system.
As an Internal Family System informed therapist, I offer sessions that are gentle, intuitive and trauma-informed. You’ll be guided in reconnecting with your core Self – the calm, compassionate, wise part of you that can lead your internal system with care.
Therapy Process and What to Expect
Getting started with therapy doesn’t have to be intimidating. Here’s what the process typically looks like:
-
Initial Consultation: You can self-refer directly. In our first session, we’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy and explore whether we’re a good fit to work together. This session is relaxed and informal, with no pressure to commit straight away.
-
Collaborative Planning: Based on your goals and preferences, I’ll recommend a therapy approach (or blend of approaches) that I believe will support you best. You’re welcome to ask questions and take time to think before continuing.
-
Regular Sessions: Sessions are weekly or fortnightly,. Whether you attend in person in Manchester or online from elsewhere i, sessions are confidential, respectful and adapted to your pace.
-
Review and Adjust: Therapy is a fluid process. As your needs shift or progress is made, we’ll review together and decide whether to continue, pause or transition to a different approach.
In-Person and Online Therapy Available

Which Therapy Is Right for Me?
It’s completely normal to feel unsure about what kind of therapy to choose. You might be drawn to one approach, or feel overwhelmed by the options. That’s why the first step is a collaborative conversation. In your initial session, we’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, your preferences, any past therapy experiences, and what you’re hoping to get out of the process.
Based on that, I can recommend a starting point – whether that’s EMDR therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or Internal Family Systems – or we might draw on elements of each. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some people benefit from focused EMDR sessions to process trauma. Others prefer the longer-term insight and integration offered by IFS or the practical, values-based tools of ACT. You don’t have to decide alone.
