Our Services
It can be a daunting process to find the right professional to meet your needs. If you are looking for therapy, you may not know what type of therapy you need as this may be unfamiliar territory for you. Rest assured, I would base this decision on the formulation of your specific difficulties, on what would be a 'best fit' for you, and on best practice guidance. We also know that the therapeutic relationship is a key determinate of change. However, it can still be useful to know a little about the background of the professional you see. The following section outlines my expertise in a little more detail.
Autism Assessment
I am trained to assess for possible autism in adults, having worked in autism diagnosis services for many years. I adhere to NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) guidance, utilising 'gold standard' assessment tools.
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) is a highly effective therapy for trauma, and other issues where traumas are at the root of the issue e.g depression, bereavement, phobias. Suitability for EMDR would be assessed in your initial sessions.
Learning Disabilities
I have many years experience of working with adults with learning disabilities, whether this is in administering and interpreting neuropsychological assessments (e.g IQ assessments) or helping with behaviours/adapted therapy
Post autism-diagnosis support
For some, having an autism diagnosis is just the first step. It can be helpful to speak to someone experienced to process your diagnosis, explore strategies for coping, disclosing your diagnosis, find useful resources and work through your emotions.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT is a therapy derived from cognitive-behavioural therapy. It can be used for a whole range of issues, but is particularly useful for managing health conditions. It can also be used with trauma. It is a values based, behavioural therapy, also incorporating mindfulness.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a therapeutic model aimed at skills teaching in areas such as emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness. It is especially useful for people who have experienced neglectful and abusive early histories.
